Okinawan Festival 2005

This year’s festival will be held on Labor Day weekend, September 3 and 4, 2005 at Kapiolani Park . The Festival Committee has been working hard to plan this year’s festival. For more information on the Festival and all other HUOA events, visit www.huoa.org. The Festival grounds will be moved back to its ‘usual’ location near the Kapiolani Bandstand. This should provide a cooler spot for our Heiwa Dori tent.

Volunteer sign up sheets for the Heiwa Dori booth will be available at the Picnic. Shift times for Sunday, September 4 are: 8:45am-12:00pm (shift 1), 11:45am-3:00pm (shift 2), 2:45pm – 6:00pm (shift 3). Please be report to the Heiwa Dori before your starting time so that the prior shift can be relieved and so that we are assured that we have enough volunteers. Shift 1: the Festival begins at 9:00am , so all workers must be in position before this time. Do not allow customers to enter the booth prior to 9:00am . All volunteers will be required to sign the Volunteer Waiver Form prior to working in the booth.

Due to the 1:00pm UH-USC Football game on Saturday, we anticipate to be shorthanded on that day. If you are interested in helping during a Saturday shift, please contact Lyn Uesato (947-6117 x1302) as soon as possible.

Help is also needed on Friday, September 2 to setup the Heiwa Dori booth. This is the day we unload all the products and put up the signs and prices. Shift begins at 8:30am and we typically finish around 2:00pm .

For those of you who are able, the Festival construction crew also could use some help during the week, unloading equipment and materials to build the booths. Look out for the HUOA Newsletter for the detailed schedule.

Winter Craft Fair

Gushichan is one of 4 clubs in charge of planning the annual Winter Craft Fair on November 25-26 at the HOC. We will need everyone’s assistance to help make this a successful craft fair. Help will be needed in planning and also working during the Craft Fair. We will keep you posted as we get more information.

HOC Clean Up Cancelled

The HOC Clean Up Day scheduled for our club on Sunday, November 6 has been cancelled. Since there is an event at the HOC that day, we would have had to complete cleaning by 9am . Also, since we will be asking for your help during the Winter Craft Fair, the Gushichan Board decided that we forego the HOC Clean Up this year.
