Hui Okinawa Children's Day Camp
Hui Okinawa held its annual Warabi Ashibi June 11-15, 2007 at the Hilo Hongwanji YBA Hall. During this cultural day camp, children constructed a shime daiko and then learned how to play it. They learned raku pottery, ikebana flower arranging, kobudo style taiko playing, Okinawan language and history, Okinawan cooking, and some old plantation games. This event was chaired by Mrs. Ruby Maekawa with lead teachers: Lani Yamami, Stella Miyashiro, Cynthia Inouye, and Betty Suetomi.  They were assisted by many assistants, youth assistants and volunteers. Almost 50 students participated in this year's camp.  Click here for more pictures.
