Irei no Hi is a memorial day for all the war dead in the tragic Battle of Okinawa, where almost 1/3 of Okinawans were killed. Uchinanchu war survivors will share testimony of their experiences, so that future generations do not forget this important history and lesson.   Thus youth, as are all, are encouraged to learn. There will be displays and film footage starting at 9:30 am. While non-religious, it is an opportunity to remember those many lives lost and the legacy of the war that has shaped the Uchinanchu experience.

Last year HUOA co-sponsored this event, which was held at the HOC. Now in its 3rd year, we are having it back at the Jikoen Hongwanji for this year for many reasons, including circulating this around the island so others from the community can enjoy it.
