2008 HUOA President Elect: FORD CHINEN

 

Ford serves as one of the Vice Presidents of the Tamagusuku Club. As President Elect, Ford is the Chair for this year's Okinawan Festival. He has been a member of HUOA Administration Committee since 2000, serving as the Chair of the Business Affairs Sub-Committee. A graduate of the University of Hawaii, Ford served in the Hawaii Air national Guard for 22 years as a Weapons Controller and Personnel Officer before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He is currently employed by Kamehameha Schools as a Human Resources Administrator. Ford is a sansei, the son of the late Takaaki and Hatsuyo Chinen, and traces his roots to "O no Shima," an island off the southern coast of Okinawa, where his father was raised and educated. Married to Daneil (Tavares) for teh past 29 years, the Chinens have two sons, Jon and Scot. In raising theier sons, the Chinens found themselves willing volunteers involving the Boy Scouts, Little League, Band, Project Graduation and University of Hawaii College Bowl Teams. With this history of volunteerism and a deep respect of his parent's culture, Ford continues to serve the Tamagusuku Club and HUOA.
