Established in 1995 on Oahu for the Hawaii Okinawa Center, the program has grown to include similar camps on Kauai, Hawaii and Maui. Children statewide will have the opportunity to participate in this program. The neighbor island programs are supported in part by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. Funds provided by the State are used to assist with training, travel and instructional expenses.

Warabi Ashibi, the popular Okinawan summer program for children, offers a variety of fun and exciting activities for children on Hawaii, Kauai, Maui and Oahu.

Each island's program is unique, but all programs are committed to provide a fun, challenging & culturally relevant program.

Examples of projects includes shimi daiko and taiko drumming, Okinawan cooking, karate, raku pottery, Okinawan/Plantation games, Uchinaaguchi, calligraphy and ikebana.
