HISTORICAL GALLERY

at Hawaii Okinawa Center

The Hawaii Okinawa Center Gallery is situated on the first floor of the Yeiko and Kameko Higa Building of the Hawaii Okinawa Center (HOC). Although compact in size, visitors and researchers are welcomed to browse at the displays of traditional Okinawan crafts, including lacquer ware, pottery, doll-making and unique fabrics. Also on display are items from Hawaii’s early plantation days and immigration era and a collection of rocks bearing names of the cities, towns and villages in Okinawa from where they were sent.

The Gallery also has a small lending collection of books. A section of resource and reference books and documents written in Japanese and English are available for use at the Center.

Staff members and volunteers of the Hawaii Okinawa Center welcome visitors during our regular business hours (8:30am~5:00pm, Monday~Friday). Requests for group tours of the Center, for a cultural presentation, for specific research or for more information about the resources of the gallery, should be made by calling the Hawaii Okinawa Center at 676-5400 or sending an e-mail to info@huoa.org for more information.
