Notes Notes by David Aka: In 1938 in commemoration of its 10th anniversary, the Hawaii Shuri Club published a book containing the club history, photographs and information on its member families. Also included were articles on various subjects written by club members and by distinguished people of Okinawa and Japan. The purposes of the book were (1) to inform relatives and friends in Okinawa of how Shuri families in Hawaii were faring, and (2) to develop a source of genealogical information for later generations. Before World War II, the club had a unique program of organized, regular visitations among its members. The program promoted a closer bond and kept members informed of club activities. In the 1950s the club donated $1,500 for the construction of a swimming pool in Yamakawa-cho, Shuri.
