Notes by Russell Ganiko: The first group of immigrants from Urasoe came to Hawaii in 1910; there were seven in the group. The history of the Urasoe Sonjinkaiis difficult to reconstruct because most of those active in the early years of the club aredeceased and their children do not recall their parents’ club activities. In addition, there is a general problem of communication between the older and the younger members of the club because of the inability of most younger members to understand Japanese or Okinawan.
